この度、日本国で特許が成立致しました1本鎖RNA干渉法「nkRNA®・PnkRNA^TM」を用いて、九州大学大学院医学研究院眼科学分野石橋 達朗 教授、東京医科大学医学部分子病理学講座 黒田 雅彦 教授に御参画を頂き、眼科領域特化型臨床開発ベンチャー「株式会社アクアセラピューティクス」を福岡市内に設立する運びに至りました。代表取締役には製薬会社で長く臨床開発を経験した弊社取締役吉川 寿徳が就任致します。本内容については２０１２年４月１９日に文部科学省記者クラブにて会見を行いました。

まずは、新規な分子標的としてペリオスチン遺伝子をターゲットとする、RNA干渉作用を用いた糖尿病性網膜症（ＤＲ）の開発を目指します。失明などの恐れがあり、視覚障害者のみならず、家族や社会にとっても大きな負担となっている本疾患に対し、一つの福音となれるよう、核酸医薬の研究・開発が期待されます。
